CHERTSEY MEN’S GROUP
A group of men mainly from the parish who meet monthly to deepen their faith through prayer and sharing. One of a number of such groups across the country formed out of the national weekends for men run annually at Woldingham and Stonyhurst, we were inspired to seek more opportunities for Catholic men to build their faith together.
TRAIDCRAFT— Trading for a fairer world.
Is a response to God’s call to ‘bring the good news to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives and set the downtrodden free.’ Traidcraft shows that there is an alternative to the commercial trade in which the rich nations and middle men use their economic strength to drive down prices paid to producers. It encourages the developing countries to acquire their own skills and helps them to find their own way out of poverty.
SPECIAL MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARIST
There are currently 35 parishioners commissioned to distribute Holy Communion at Masses. In addition to their Mass duties some visit and take Holy Communion to the sick and housebound on a regular basis on both Sundays and weekdays. If at any time you are sick, or you know someone who is sick and would like Holy Communion a minister will bring the Sacrament on request.
JOURNEY IN FAITH
The parish offers a course for those interested in learning more about the Christian faith. Meetings normally take place every second Wednesday in the Savio Centre 8.00 – 9.30 pm.
ALTAR SERVERS
It is an honour to serve on the Lord’s Sanctuary. After at least one year of faithful service, altar servers may be invited to enrol into the Guild of St Stephen – the patron Saint of Altar Servers. Those interested must have made their first Holy Communion. Parents are asked to give every encouragement to their children to become Altar Servers.
CATECHISTS
Parish catechists prepare our children for the Sacraments of Eucharist, Reconciliation and Confirmation. Courses are also run for parents who wish Baptism for their children.
